MATASEMARANG.COM – Indonesian weightlifter Rizki Juniansyah on Monday broke two world records after winning the gold medal in the men’s 79-kilogram category at the 2025 SEA Games weightlifting final held at Chonburi Sports School, Chonburi, Thailand.
Following his victory, Juniansyah said the achievement marked an important breakthrough for his future career, including his ambition to compete at the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.
“I felt moved and proud, but my ultimate goal is the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. My target is to compete there,” he stated as quoted Antara.
Juniansyah dominated the competition from the outset. His 160-kilogram lift in the snatch gave him a strong foundation and put Indonesia in a commanding position early in the final.
His performance peaked in the clean and jerk, where he successfully lifted 205 kilograms, setting his first world record of the competition and securing the gold medal.
With a combined total of 365 kilograms, Juniansyah went on to break a second world record, surpassing the previous mark of 363 kilograms.
Malaysia’s Muhammad Erry Hidayat claimed the silver medal with a total lift of 336 kilograms, while Thailand’s Natthawut Suepsuan secured bronze after lifting a combined 335 kilograms.
Juniansyah said the record-breaking performance was the result of careful planning with his coach. He revealed that his initial plan was to attempt a world record in the snatch, but his coach advised him to conserve energy for the clean and jerk.
“I intended to break the world record in snatch, but my coach did not allow it and advised me to save my power for clean and jerk,” he said, adding that his 160-kilogram snatch felt “more relaxed.”
