MATASEMARANG.COM – The Semarang City Government is striving to address waste management at the Final Waste Disposal Site (TPA) Jatibarang through high-tech development.
Semarang Mayor Agustina Wilujeng, during event of the Market Sounding for the Jatibarang Waste-to-Energy Power Plant (PSEL) Project, invited investors to participate in building a waste-to-electricity processing facility.
The event, held on Monday, July 28, 2025, at Semarang City Hall, was attended by representatives from central ministries/agencies, the Central Java Provincial Government, the Semarang Parliament City (DPRD), and more than 30 potential national and international businesses.
“We are grateful that the Semarang City Government is one of 12 regencies/cities and provinces receiving attention from the central government. They are providing us with various advocacy and opportunities to quickly resolve the waste problem at the TPA Jatibarang,” said Agustina.
She emphasized that the urgency of developing the power plant is not solely for energy production, but rather for comprehensive waste management.
“For us, it’s not about converting waste into electricity. For us, the government and residents of Semarang, the most important thing is waste management,” he emphasized.
Agustina also highlighted the highly fluctuating and large volume of waste in Semarang.
“The volume of waste in Semarang fluctuates, between 800 and 1,200 tons per day, but the volume has not been optimally reduced at the TPA Jatibarang,” she explained.
