Cak Imin Warns of Overseas Job Scams Promising Big Paychecks

MATASEMARANG.COM – Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment Abdul Muhaimin Iskandar has advised people to thoroughly vet overseas job providers and not be lured by offers of huge salaries.

The minister, colloquially called Cak Imin, said those seeking work abroad must gather clear and verified information about the job, including the provider, type of work, and terms and conditions.

“Don’t get lured by false promises of a big salary,” he warned in Malang, East Java, on Saturday.

He highlighted many instances of Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) falling victim to job scams. In many cases, when workers arrive in the destination country, the job and pay do not match what was initially promised.

“That’s the bait often used to drag people into exploitative systems,” the minister noted.

He also reminded prospective migrant workers to research their destination countries and be cautious and selective when choosing where to work.

“To everyone: be very selective when picking jobs overseas. Don’t trust information from Facebook that may not be reliable,” Iskandar said.

His administration will consistently monitor the recruitment of prospective migrant workers to prevent more people from falling victim to crime. Moreover, the ministry will improve training and empowerment initiatives for prospective migrant workers, he added.
