MATASEMARANG.COM – Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment Abdul Muhaimin Iskandar has proposed the establishment of a National Vocational Agency (BVN) as a strategic measure to boost the competitiveness of the country’s workforce.
He argued that such an agency is needed for the government to improve and accelerate the implementation of vocational programs, ultimately strengthening the capacity of Indonesian workers to face shifting demands in both domestic and global job markets.
“Although our workforce has the potential to penetrate both domestic and foreign job markets, it remains essential for us to move faster to consolidate our vocational education system to assist the people, especially the youth, to augment their capacity,” Iskandar remarked in Jakarta on Friday.
Addressing the press after a meeting with Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Pratikno, he asserted that forming the BVN is vital for the government to craft timely and accurate policies in response to the rapidly evolving skill sets required by industries.
“We are currently witnessing rapid changes in the pool of skills needed by industries. Within less than two years, we can expect to see the job market trend shift again,” he pointed out.
The minister then stressed that Indonesia needs an integrated and solid vocational system capable of adapting to job market dynamics.
“With that in mind, it is crucial that we continue to develop the national vocational system, and to that end, I suggest we establish the National Vocational Agency,” Iskandar said, reiterating the need to fast-track consolidation.
